Given :  A girl walks 600m east from her home.

She then walks 800m north and takes a turn to 600m east.

From there she decided to turn back and walks back the 600m.

To Find : How much meters should she walk to get home by taking the shortest path and in which direction should she walk?

Solution:

         North

West           East

         South

East = 600 m

North = 800 m

Then East = 600 m

Then East = -600 m  ( walks back the 600m)

Total East = 600 + 600 - 600 = 600 m

Total North = 800 m

From start point she is North East Direction

so from that point her home will be South West Direction

Distance to be covered = √600² + 800² = 1000 m

She should walk 1000 m in  South west direction

To be precise about 37° West of South
