Answer:

Let the present age of father be 'x ' years & son's age be ' y ' years.

For 10 years ago ,

(x-10) = 4( y- 10)

x-10 = 4y - 40

x-4y = -40+10

x-4y = -30 ( 1 )

For 10 years hence

x+ 10 = 2(y+10)

x + 10 = 2y + 20

x-2y = 20–10

x-2y = 10 (2)

Subtraction (1) - (2)

y = 20

Substituting y= 20 in eq(2)

x - 2(20) = 10

x- 40 = 10

x = 40+10

x= 50

Father's age is 50 years & son's age is 20 years.
