Given data :

  • Aruna put a rope around a rectangular flower bed 10 m long and 2.5 m wide.
  • Komal put a rope around a square flower bed of side 6.4 m.

To find : Who used more rope and by how much ?

Solution : Now, according to given, we need to find perimeter of rectangular flower bed and square flower bed.

Now, for rectangular flower bed ;

  • Length = 10 m
  • Breadth = 2.5 m

⟹ Perimeter of rectangular flower bed

= 2 * (length + breadth)

⟹ Perimeter of rectangular flower bed

= 2 * (10 + 2.5)

⟹ Perimeter of rectangular flower bed

= 2 * 3.5

⟹ Perimeter of rectangular flower bed

= 7 m

Now, for square flower bed ;

  • length of side = 6.4 m

⟹ Perimeter of square flower bed

= 4 * (side)

⟹ Perimeter of square flower bed

= 4 * 6.4

⟹ Perimeter of square flower bed

= 25.6 m

Hence, we know that, Perimeter of square flower bed is greater than Perimeter of rectangular flower bed means Komal need more rope than Aruna.

Now, to extra rope used by aruna than Komal;

⟹ Length of rope = Perimeter of rectangular flower bed - Perimeter of square flower bed

⟹ Length of rope = 25.6 - 7

⟹ Length of rope = 18.6 m

Answer : Hence, Komal need more rope than Aruna by 18.6 m.
