4.B) Attempt the summary of the following passage and suggest a title. 5
The spirit of science is the spirit of humility, the spirit of reason, the spirit of
enquiry, the spirit of cooperation, the spirit of improvement and innovation, the
spirit of progress. It encourages invention and discovery. It realizes that even the
most learned know little when compared to all that is known or unknowable and
all that is known to mankind is a mere trifle compared to what is still unknown.
The scientific spirit demands a relentless quest for truth and a shifting of truth
from error, the seeming from the real, the absolute from the contingent, the whole
or universal from the partial or local, the right from wrong, the good from evil. It
is a search for the best for the sake of human welfare. Science plays very important
role in human life.

Answer:
- The Scientific temper is a way of life (defined in this context as an individual and social process of thinking and acting) which uses the scientific method and which may, consequently, include questioning, observing physical reality, testing, hypothesizing, analysing, and communicating (not necessarily in that order). "Scientific temper" describes an attitude which involves the application of logic. Discussion, argument and analysis are vital parts of scientific temper. Elements of fairness, equality and democracy are built into it.[1] Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru was the first to use the phrase in 1946 in India.[2]
