Rashtrakuta Dynasty have played an important role in the cultural development of India. One of the best contribution of the Rashtrakuta Dynasty was the construction of Kailasha Temple at Ellora. The architecture of this temple has been still highlighted in many parts of the world as an unbelievable architecture.The Rashtrakuta rulers were great patrons of art and literature. Krishna I built the famous rock-cut Kailasa temple at Ellora in the latter half of the eighth century AD.

The patronage that Jainism got under the Vaishnava Rashtrakutas was unparalleled. It was the golden age of Jainism and as per Altekar, at least 30% of the society in Karnataka was Jain. But the Rashtrakutas propagated Shaivism and Buddhism too. They were a symbol of religious tolerance.
