In Chapter 12, the author mentions that a road was named after Wyatt Tate Brady, a known Ku Klux Klan leader. It is not known if he was directly involved in the events of May 31, 1921, however, he likely indirectly contributed to the fueling of hate and animosity that could have led to the massacre. In 2013, the street was renamed M.B. Brady Street after Matthew Brady, a Civil War photographer (not a Tulsan). In 2019, the street was renamed again, Reconciliation Way, which eliminated the name Brady altogether. A significant movement is underway across the country to change the name of places, schools, mascots, etc. due to negative historical events tied to the names. How do you feel about changing the names of places, teams, etc. that are named after known racists or negative historical events?
