Farming is the primary occupation in the Village of Palampur.

1. The rural people mostly consisted of the Dalits or the Schedule Caste which formed 1/3rd of the population.

2. The rural people lived in small houses that were made of straw and mud.

3. Although 75% of the rural populations were farm laborers, they received less than the minimum wages that were fixed by the government.

4. Instead of taking a loan from the banks, they prefer taking loans from the larger farmers or money lenders in the village.

5. Most of the work in the farm is done by the farmer and his family.
