Class VII Science.
Answer:
A pH indicator is a halochromic chemical compound added in small amounts to a solution so the pH of the solution can be determined visually. Hence, a pH indicator is a chemical detector for hydronium ions or hydrogen ions in the Arrhenius model.
Methods
Find the pH of a substance using pH paper. Dip the end of the pH strip into the chemical or substance you want to test. After a couple of seconds, remove the paper and compare the color of the pH strip to the color chart provided with the pH paper kit. Do not re-use a pH paper to retest or test another chemical.
Indicators are substances that change colour when they are added to acidic or alkaline solutions. Litmus, phenolphthalein, and methyl orange are all indicators that are commonly used in the laboratory.
