 \frac{2 {x}^{2}  - x - 1}{x - 1}  \\  \\  =  \frac{2 {x}^{2} - 2x + x - 1 }{x - 1}  \\  \\  =  \frac{2x(x - 1) + 1(x - 1)}{x - 1}  \\  \\  =  \frac{(x - 1)(2x + 1)}{x - 1}  \\  \\  = 2x + 1
