During the winter season, days are warm, night temperature falls below 0°C in the Thar Desert. But coastal areas of India hardly experience winter, with temperature ranging between 20-25°C. This happens because moderating effect of land and sea breeze.

  • Land absorbs heat more rapidly and also radiates heat very fast in comparison to se or oceans.
  • So, during day time Sun's heat is absorbed by land rapidly lead to warm and it results in creating a low pressure on land. Whereas sea absorbs heat very slowly lead to remain cold in comparison to land. So, it has high pressure.
  • Air blows from high pressure to low pressure. So, during day time sea breeze blows towards land and helps to moderate the temperature.
  • And in night vice versa. Land breeze blows from land to sea.
  • Thar desert is situated in the western part of the India and no direct access to sea.
  • Most of the deserts of the world are on Western margin of the continents due to flow of cold current alongside the continents.
