We know wood is a good insulator resists the flow of electrons through it but when lightning strikes over it then due to huge amount of voltage the tree will burn out or the electrons will find a shortest path to discharge through you and they will be grounded. You will die in a millisecond if lightning strikes over you…

So that it is unsafe to stand near a tree during thunderstorm..
