Let P(x,0) be the point on the x-axis which is at a distance of 2√5 units from the point A(7,-4)
By applying Distance formula,
AP = 2√5
⇒ AP² = (2√5)² = 20 [Squaring on both sides]
⇒ (x - 7)² + (0+4)² = 20
⇒ (x-7)² = 4
⇒ x-7 = 2 or -2
⇒ x = 9 or x = 5
Hence, the required point is P(5,0) or P'(9,0)
There can be two such points on the x-axis.
