Verifying commutative property of multiplication

Commutative property of multiplication:

We consider two real numbers a and b. The Commutative property of multiplication states that,

a × b = b × a

Step-by-step explanation:

i. Here, 126 × 63

= (100 + 20 + 6) × 63

= 100 × 63 + 20 × 63 + 6 × 63

= 6300 + 1260 + 378

= 7938

and 63 × 126

= (60 + 3) × 126

= 60 × 126 + 3 × 126

= 7560 + 378

= 7938

So, 126 × 63 = 63 × 126.

ii. Here, 437 × 742

= (400 + 30 + 7) × 742

= 400 × 742 + 30 × 742 + 7 × 742

= 296800 + 22260 + 5194

= 324254

and 742 × 437

= (700 + 40 + 2) × 437

= 700 × 437 + 40 × 437 + 2 × 437

= 305900 + 17480 + 874

= 324254

So, 437 × 742 = 742 × 437

NOTE:

  • Here, we have used Distributive Property to find the products: a × (b + c) = a × b + a × c.
