General elections in India happens when the tenure of the current lok sabha comes to an end or if the lok sabha is dissolved by the President of India. Generally it takes place after every five year and the date for election is decided by election commission of India.
On the other hand by elections take place if a vacancy is created in parliament due to death , resignation of the incumbent or if his election is cancelled due to ineligibility or violation of terms of membership of parliament.
