Xylem is a complex plant tissue that consists of living as well as non-living cells. A simple experiment to show that xylem is the path of sap in plants can be done by cutting the shots of two woody stems. In one shoot, xylem is blocked with 'wax' whereas in other, phloem is blocked with 'wax'.
