Since x=1 and y=7 is the solution

xay+12 =0

× 1 a × 7 + 12 =0

7a + 12=0

By splitting the middle term

3a4a+12=0

a(a–3)4(a–3) =0

(a–3)(a–4)=0

a–3 =0 or a–4=0

a=3 or a=4

It should be x=1 , y=7

7 - 1 = 6
