In original mixture,

Let milk added be 2x and water be x.

Ratio is 2:1

To change it in the ratio 1:2 , let the water added be y.

.•. 2x/(x+y) = 1/2

=> 2*2x = 1*(x+y)

=> 4x = x+y

=> y = 4x-x

.•. y = 3x

Answer : Water to be added is 3x
