Concept

Addition

Given

The staircase has the height of the first step as

10 centimetres and the height of each step after it

is 17.5 centimetres.

To Find

How high from the ground would be

someone climbing up after each step?

Write it in a sequence.

Method

We will add 17.5 cm after each successive step as climber will be moving up by 17.5 cm after each step.

Solving

Height of first step is 10 cm.

It means if a climber move to step 1 he/she would have climbed up by 10 cm.

Height of second step is 17.5 cm.

So, after climbing second step, climber would have covered ( 10 + 17.5 )cm = 27.5 cm.

Similarly, after climbing third step, climber would have covered ( 27.5 + 17.5 )cm = 45 cm.

Similarly, after climbing fourth step, climber would have covered ( 45 + 17.5 )cm = 62.5 cm.

Similarly, after climbing fifth step, climber would have covered ( 62.5 + 17.5 )cm = 80 cm.

Similarly, we can find the distance climber have climbed for further more steps.

Answer

10, 27.5, 45, 62.5, 80, ...........

Learn More :-

A sequence with same common difference between its consecutive terms is known as Arithmetic Progression.

For example,

10, 27.5, 45, 62.5, 80

We can clearly see that difference between two terms is ( 27.5 - 10 ) = 17.5

( 62.5 - 45 ) = 17.5
