in ∆ RST, S = 90°

By Pythagoras Theorem

(RT)² = (RS)² + (ST)²

(12)² = (RS)² + (8)²

144 = (RS)² + 64

(RS)² = 144 - 64

(RS)² = 80

Taking square root on both the side

RS = √80

RS = √16 × 5

RS = 4√5
