Answer:

  • when water is cooled , its density increases
  • But when temperature of water reaches 4 degree celsius , water will have its maximum density
  • So then after if water is further cooled from 4 degree celsius , its density decreases . This is an anomalous property of water ( that is , water only show this property )
  • So at 0 degree celsius ( that is when  water turn ice ) the density will be less than the density of water
  • Since ice has density less than water , it floats in it
