Let the no. of day's work  by boys be y

4/x +4/y= 3    -(i)

2/x+5/y= 4     -(ii)

let 1/x = a and 1/y= b

4a+4b=3

2a+5b=4 * 2

so,

4a+4b=3

4a+10b=8

b= 5/6

4a+4b =3

4a+4(5/6)=3

4a+20/6=3

24a+20 = 3*6

24a= 18-20

24a= -2

a= -2/24

a=1/12

a= 1/x = 1/12      (12 days is required by men to complete the job)

b=1/y=5/6         (1.2 day is required by boys to complete the job )

x= 12, y= 1.2
