1. The vestigial structure in the alimentary canal of man is Vermiform Appendix which is a finger like projection attached to the caecum (first part) of large intestine . When the half digested food reaches appendix , it remains there and produce toxics which causes condition called appendicitis , only curable through operations and may be fatal if not payed early attention .

2. The number of different types of teeth in man is :

  • Incisors : 8
  • Canine : 4
  • Premolars : 8
  • Molars : 12

The dental formula for half dentition is given by :

I (2) , C(1) , P(2) , M(3)

This means that when divided into four parts , the number of teeth will be in this form .

This type of dentition in which different types of teeth are present is called heterodont .

An appendix is one of the vestigial organs present in the alimentary canal of human. It is situated at the merging point of the small and large intestine.

Vestigial organs can be defined as the organs of the body which are smaller and simpler. These organs are well-known as they have present in our body even though they have lost their original functions.

The examples of vestigial organs includes sinuses, wisdom teeth, tonsils, etc.
