4. Out of herd of camels, one-sixth went to the river’s bank, one-third sat at a place for rest and one-fourth of them were busy in eating leaves. If there were still 9 camels left in the herd, find the total number of camels.

let the total no. of camels be x

thus, x-(1/6x+1/3x+ 1/4x)=9

x-(2/12x+4/12x+3/12x)=9

x- 9/12x=9

12/12x-9/12x=9

3/12x=9

x=9*12/3

x=36
