More the number of pumps lesser is the time taken to fill the tank
Number of pumps ∝ 1/Time
n = k / t
[where k = constant]
In 1st case
5 = k / (1.5)
k = 7.5
In second case
n = k / t
= 7.5 / 0.5
= 15
∴ 15 pumps are used to fill the empty tank in half an hour

Answer:
16 pumps
Step-by-step explanation:
given that,
no.of pumps are inversely proportional to time .
by problem,
- no.of pumps - 4. x2
time - 1 hr- 60 min. 15 min
we know that,
x1xy1 =x2xy2
x1= 4&X2=60
X2=?,y2=15
According to the problem,
4x60=x2x15
240=x2x15
240/15=X2
therefore X2=16
