Not every fire is the same if only flammable liquid is burning and there is not a huge amount it will burn itself out pretty fast usually. You can use water to protect the exposures and if you know what your doing use a water fog to cool the fire. Since you are asking this question I will presume you have no experience and tell you do not use water on the flammable liquid fire. If the fire is small you can use a CO2 or Dry Chemical
