4.Read the following passage carefully:
A small set of kindness can make a big difference. RavinderDudeja, 55, is one such example. RavinderDudeja set up the NGO after losing his son to Thalassaemia. Foundation AgainstThalassaemia takes care of 160 children suffering from the disease. “I lost my son at the age of 18 due to Thalassaemia in 2003,” Dudeja told the Hindustan Times , adding, “We had to search from one city to another for blood. Because of the non-availability of blood in those days, we could not save my son.”
“That is when I realized that there were many other families whose children were also suffering from this disease and who too were unable to get blood required for transfusion and since then we are working for these children, arranging timely and free blood for them with the help of some hospital and other social organizations”. Said Dudeja.
“Thalassaemia is a genetic, incurable disease in which the affected child is unable to maintain normal hemoglobin level and is completely dependant on the periodic blood transfusion and regular supply of medicines till the very end of their lives”, Dudeja said, “and expensive medicines that cost approximately Rs.5 to 10 thousand per month.”
“My daughter was diagnosed with malaria when she was 11 months old and we later came to know that she was suffering from Thalasseamia”, said Rita Nagpal. “It was extremely difficult to arrange blood in less than a month’s time.” Nagpal then enrolled her daughter with Foundation AgainstThalassaemia, which is now arranging blood and medicines for her.
“Foundation AgainstThalassaemia is the only one organization in Haryana, which is fighting a battle of survival for the children suffering from the deadly disease on a large scale and arranges blood and medicines for them free of cost”. RavinderDudeja says.
The NGO also motivates the general public to come forward for donating blood. In order to keep these children happy, this NGO also arranges picnics for them.
