Number of schools that sent students to a language course=4

Ratio of number of French students to the number of German students=1:3

Total number of German student=21

Then, let the number of students who took French be x.

This can be written as:-

 = 1: 3 : : x : 21

 = x =  \frac{21 \times 1}{3}

 = x =  \frac{21}{3}

 = \:  x \bold{   \: \: =  \: 7}

Thus, the number of students who took French=7

Which means :-

The total number of students sent to the language course:-

 = 21 + 7

 = \bold{28}

Thus, the total number of students sent=28

Therefore, the total number of students sent to the language course =28
