 =  >  {x}^{2}  + x + 5 = 0

Here,we use quadratic formula to find out the solution:-

Here,a=1 ; b=1. & c=5

 =  > x =  \frac{ -b ± \sqrt{ {b }^{2} - 4ac } }{2a}

 =  > x =  \frac{ -1 ± \sqrt{1 - 4 \times 5} }{2}

 =  > x =  \frac{ -1 ± \sqrt{1 - 20} }{2}

 =  > x =  \frac{ -1 ± \sqrt{19i} }{2}

=> 'i' (iota) is used in place of negative sign.

Why we used iota \mathcal{i}?

=>We use iota whenever there is negative value inside root.We use iota in place of negative value.
