4. Solve the following word problems. Each question carries 4 marks, (8 marks)
a) A 56.8 kg concrete slab can be balanced by two concrete pillars, each weighing
41.3 kg. How many concrete pillars are needed to support slabs that weigh 681.6
kg? Calculate the total weight of the slabs and the pillars.​

Weight of each concrete slab=56.8kg

pillars for support=41.3kg

it is given that 2 pillars can hold a slap

so

=2×41.3

=82.6

no. of pillars needed to support slab of 681.6kg concrete

= 681.6÷56.8

= 12 slabs

pillars needed

= 12×2

=24 pillars

weight of 24 pillars = 24×41.3

= 991.2

Total weight of concrete needed

= 991.2+681.6

= 1672.8kg.

therefore, total weight of concrete is 1672.8 kg
