let the two whole numbers be X and Y

X - Y = 66 ( equation 1)

X : Y = 1 : 4

X ÷ Y = 1 ÷ 4 (equation 2)

from equation 2

4x = y

therefore y = 4x

substitute value of" y " in equation 1

x - y = 66

x - 4x = 66

- 3x = 66

x = 66÷3

x = -22

substitute value of "x" in equation 1

x ÷ y = 1 ÷ 4

22 ÷ y = 1 ÷ 4

by cross multiplication

22 × 4 = 1× y

88 = y

therefore y = 88
