The hardness of  water 205.1 ppm.

Given:

The hardness of water 15000L was removed by Zeolite softener

he zeolite softener then required 400 L of sodium chloride solution containing 4N NaCl for regeneration

To find:

the hardness of water

Solution:

1 litre of NgCl solution is 30g NaCl.

.. 120 litre of NaCl

120x30x10^3 mg  NaCl.

3600 x10^3 mg NaCl.

= 3600 x10^3 x 50/58.5

= 30.7692 × 10^5mg equivalent of CaC03

15000 litres of water = 30.7692 x 10^5 mg equivalent of CaCO3.

The hardness of  water

30.7692 × 105 15000 = 205.1 ppm

∴ The hardness of  water 205.1 ppm
