4. The length of a rectangular plate is measured by
a meter scale and is found to be 10.0 cm. Its
width is measured by Vernier callipers as
1.00 cm. The least count of the meter scale and
Vernier callipers are 0.1 cm and 0.01 cm
respectively. Maximum permissible error in area
measured is
(1) + 0.2 cm2 (2) + 0.1 cm
(3) + 0.3 cm
(4) Zero

L(length)=10.0

B(width)=1

dL= 0.1

dB= 0.01

Area(A)=LxB= 10.0x1=10

dA/A = dL/L+dB/B

dA/10 = 0.1/10+0.01/1

dA/10 = 0.01+0.01

dA/10 = 0.02

dA = 0.02 x 10

dA = 0.2 cmsq.
