Given : The length of a rectangular swimming pool is 3 meters less than three times the width. The sum of width and the length of the pool is 21 meters.

To  Find :  the length and width of the pool.  

Solution:

Let say width =  x  m

Length = x - 3

width + length =  21

=> x + x - 3  = 21

x + x - 3  = 21  is the equation

=> 2x   = 24

=> x = 12

width = 12 m

Length = 9 m
