The perimeter of a rectangle is 40 cm. The length of the rectangle is more than double its breadth by 2. Find length and breadth.

\mathtt{\large{\bf{\underline{\green{Answer :-}}}}}

Given :-

  • The perimeter of a rectangle is 40 cm.

  • The length of the rectangle is more than double its breadth by 2.

To Find :-

  • The length of a rectangle .

  • The breadth of a rectangle .

Solution :-

Let the breadth be x cm.

According to the question ,The length of the rectangle is more than double its breadth by 2.

So, the length (l) will be 2b+2

➡ l = 2b+2 .........[ 1 ]

Give, Perimeter (P) of the rectangle is 40 cm.

We, know that perimeter of a rectangle is 2 ( l + b ).

So we get , 2(l+b) = 40

➝ 2( l + b ) = 40

Using equation (1.)

➝ 2 ( 2b + 2 + b ) = 40

➝ 2 ( 3b + 2 ) = 40

➝ ( 3b + 2 ) =  \dfrac{40}{2}

➝ ( 3b + 2 ) =  \cancel{\dfrac{40}{2}}

➝ 3b+2 = 20

➝ 3b = 20-2

➝ 3b = 18

➝ b =  \cancel{\dfrac{18}{3}}

b = 6 cm

We know , Length (l) = 2b+2 , according to the question .

➝ l = (2× 6 ) + 2

➝ l = 12+2

l = 14 cm

So, The The length of a rectangle is 6 cm & The breadth of a rectangle is 14 cm.

\mathtt{\large{\bf{\underline{\blue{Verification :-}}}}}

The perimeter of a rectangle is 40 cm. (given )

We, know that perimeter of a rectangle is 2 ( l + b ).

2( l + b ) = 40

Putting value of l & b

➝ 2 ( 14 + 6 ) = 40

➝ 2 × 20 = 40

➝ 40 = 40

Hence, Verified ✔
