so we know that perimeter of rectangle is

2(length+breadth)

and area=length×breadth

so according to first condition

68=2(x+y)

ie x+y=34

so x=34-y (1)

according to second condition

xy=253 (2)

substitute value of x in (2) from (1)

we get now

(34-y)×y=253

34y-y square=253

ie y square-34y+253=0

so y square-23y-11y+253=0

ie y(y-23)-11(y-253)=0

so y=11 OR y=23

substitute value of y first as 11

you get x=23

so when y=11 is substituted x=23

then substitute y=23

you get x=11

so this dimensions of rectangle are 23×11cm or 11×23 cm
