  • first digit = 9
  • second digit = 8

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

  • The sum of the digits of a two-digit number is 17 .
  • The difference between
  • the digits is 1 .

To find :-

  • the two digit number .

Solution :-

  • Let first digit number = x
  • Let second digit number = y

A.T.Q.

The sum of the digits of two digit number = 17 .

Therefore,

x + y = 17 ............eq.(1)

Also,

Difference between the digits = 1

Therefore,

x – y = 1 ............eq.(2)

Add eq.(1) and eq.(2) we get --

x + y = 17

x – y = 1

2x = 18

x = 18/2

x = 9

Put the value of x = 9 in eq.(1) we get --

x + y = 17

9 + y = 17

y = 17 – 9

y = 8

So, the first number = 9

Second number = 8
