x + x + 1 + x + 2 = 39

3x + 3 = 39

3x = 39-3

3x = 36

x = 36/3

x = 12

therefore the three consecutive positive integers = 12 , 13 , 14

5) let the consecutive odd numbers be x , x+2 , x+4

sum the odd numbers = 39

x + x + 2 + x + 3 = 39

3x + 6 = 39

3x = 39-6

3x = 33

x = 33/3

x = 11
