Given :-
- The sum of two numbers is 137.
- The difference of two numbers is 43.
To find :-
- The required number = ?
Solution :-
Let the first number be x
and second number be y
Now,
According to the question,
- x + y = 137 .....................(i)
- x - y = 43 ......................(ii)
Then,
Adding eq (i) and eq (ii),
(x + y) + (x - y) = 137 + 43
⤇ x + x + y - y = 180
⤇ 2x = 180
⤇ x =
⤇ x = 90
Putting the value of x in eq (i),
x + y = 137
⤇ 90 + y = 137
⤇ y = 137 - 90
⤇ y = 47
Hence, the required number will be 90 and 47.
