The Turks, as you saw in the earlier
chapters, were an ancient nomadic tribe
from Central Asia. They were converted
to Islam by the Abbasid caliphate. After
the fall of the Abbasids, the Turks
grew
in strength. They soon turned their eyes
towards India, tempted by the stories they
had heard of this land's fabulous wealth. In
