4. There was a heavy downpour. Rohan had to fetch medicines for his mother. He did not have an
umbrella. He quickly picked up a big polythene / plastic bag, tore it, covered himself and went out to buy the medicine. Why did he use the polythene plastic bag to cover himself?

Answer:

We can use polythene to cover ourselves to not get wet because polythene doesn't absorb water, and hence we can say it is waterproof. Also polythene is a synthetic fibre making it waterproof.

Rohan used plastic bag because plastic does not absorb water.

  • Plastics are made through formation of polymeric chains that's why they are waterproof.

  • Plastics are typically waterproof and relatively lightweight.
