--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let x = the number.  Replace the words "a certain number" and "the number"

both by x

4 times x is as much less than 60 as 7 times x is greater than 61. Find x

Replace the words "4 times x" by "4x" and "7 times x" by "7x"

4x is as much less than 60 as 7x is greater than 61. Find x

To find out how much less 4x is than 60 we subtract larger minus smaller,

or 60-4x

To find out how much greater 7x is than 61 we subtract larger minus

smaller or 7x-61.

Those are equal so the equation is

        60 - 4x = 7x - 61

Solve that equation and get x = 11

\textbf{ Hello Friend! }

\textbf{ I'm here to help you with your question. }

\textbf{ So lets get started! }

\textbf{ 4 times a certain number... }

\textbf{ Is rewritten algebraically as 4x }

---------------------------------------------------

\textbf{ Is as much less than 60... }

rewritten that 60 - 4x

---------------------------------------------------

\textbf{ 7 times the number }

rewritten as 7x

----------------------------------------------------

Is greater than 61...

rewritten as 7x-618

60 - 4x = 7x -61

121 = 11x

x = 11

Hope this helps you!
