4.Two rods, 'A' and 'B', of the same weight and
equal length, have different thicknesses. A boy,
while playing with them on a beach, held them vertically on the surface of sand as shown in the figure. Which one of them will sink less? Explain.

In this case both Rods A and B have equal weight.

So they exert same force on the sand.

But the surface area of Rod B is greater than A.

As Pressure is inversely proportional to Surface Area  (Pressure increases when Surface Area decreases)

So Rod B exert lesser pressure on sand than A.

SO B SINKS LESS.
