4. Verify x + (y + z) = (x + y) + z for following values of x, y and z.

LHS = x + ( y + z )

= –3 / 5 + ( – 5 / 6 – 7 / 9 )

= – 3 / 5 + [ ( – 5 ×3 – 7 × 2 )/ 18 ]

= – 3 / 5 + [ ( –15 – 14 / 18 ]

= – 3 / 5 + [ – 29 / 18 ]

= ( – 3 × 18 – 29 × 5 ) / 90

= – 54 – 145 / 90

= – 199 / 90

RHS = ( x + y ) + z

= ( –3 / 5 – 5 / 6) – 7 / 9

= [ ( – 3×6 – 5 × 5 ) / 30 ] – 7/9

= [ ( – 18 – 25 ) / 30 ] – 7/9

= [ ( – 43 ) /30 ] – 7/9

= (–43×3 – 7 × 10 ) / 90

= ( – 129 – 70 ) /90

= ( – 199 ) / 90

LHS = RHS

hence verified.
