What is Management?
Management is the process of planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling, done either individually or in a group, with the aim of acheiving a goal.
Is Management a Profession?
To answer that, we should first know the Characteristics of Profession.
Characteristics of Profession:
- Entry barrier in form of an exam.
- A professional needs to be a part of a professional body like ICAI, ICMR etc.
- They need to follow an ethical cōdē of conduct.
- Specialized Knowledge is required.
- Social Responsibility is top-most aim.
Comparing Management to Profession:
- No such entry barrier exists.
- Professional bodies like AIMA exist but for someone to be a manager, it is not necessary to be a part of AIMA.
- No specified cōdē of conduct.
- Specialised Knowledge exists. For example, the principles of Taylor anf Fayol.
- Management is Pervasive, ie it exists in all type of non-economic, profit and non-profit organizations, all of which have different primary goals, which may or may not be social responsibility.
Conclusion
Therefore, it can be concluded that as of now, management is a not eactly a profession but is in its way of becoming one.
In all, it is not conisidered as a profession because
