If plants required oxygen for photosynthesis plants would have released carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. As we know we take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. We would not been able to survive because of the loss of oxygen in the atmosphere. And because of loss of oxygen plants would also have died.

And the planet would become extinct.
