When a body attached with a spring has no displacement from its mean position, this position of the body is called EQUILIBRIUM POSITION.

• So, equilibrium position is a position in which the body experiences balanced forces or doesn't experience any force.

• That position is also called the mean position.

• Now, if we push/pull the spring and start oscillation of the body, the displacement of the spring is now the AMPLITUDE OF THE OSCILLATION.

• That position from which the body will start oscillating now becomes the EXTREME POSITION.

We know that for an SHM:

F = - kx ,

At equilibrium position,

=> 0 = -kx

=> x = 0 , that is the mean position.
