a). The Mansabdari system was the administrative system introduced by Akbar in Mughal Empire during 1571. The word 'Mansab' is of Arabic origin meaning rank or position. Hence, Mansabdari was a system of ranking the government officials and determined their civil & military duties, along with their renumerations
b).Thus the 'zat' and 'sawar' ranks were introduced. 'zat' indicate the number of the troops which a mansabdar was expected to maintain, while sawar indicate the actual number of horses under the command of a mansabdar. ... The Mansabdars were allowed to recruit their own troops from their races.
