Walt Whitman perceived animals to be better than human beings as they did not suffer from evils of mind, body and soul. They, unlike man did not suffer from materialism. The best thing he liked about them was their contentment and freedom from stress, anxiety and tension. They neither complained about anyone and anything nor found fault with anyone. Human beings on the other hand always complained and were dissatisfied. That's why he wanted to live with animals.
