Given :  4 workers complete the job at equal rates.

Due to a problem, two of the workers quit after working for only one day. The remaining two workers completed the job but required 4 more days than it was originally scheduled.

To Find : How many days was the job scheduled for?

Solution:

job scheduled for  x days

Number of workers = 4

Total work = 4x  man days

2 workers worked for 1 day

remaining 2  workers worked for x + 4 days

Hence Total work Done = 2 *1   + 2 * ( x + 4)

= 2x + 10   Man days

Equate

4x = 2x + 10

=> 2x = 10

=> x = 5

Hence originally scheduled for 5 days
