The colonial administration made various experiments with revenue collection. Central to this was survey and measurement and fixation of revenue on its basis. After the battle of plassey in 1757,the British got the jamindari of 24 hours from the Calcutta to Kulfi from Nawab mirjafar .Lord Clive was the searching for people to conduct and Measurement survey. In 1760, Franklin's started a survey of the new 24 Parganas. Frankland died before he could finish his work .His work was completed by Hog Cameron. The waterways of Bengal was surveyed in 1764 by James Reynolds .The British Company in 1767 appointed him as the surveyor general or the head of the land survey department. In all,rennaell made 16 maps of the waterways. This was done in Bengal for the very first time. .In is 1786 the committee of revenue was recognised as the Board of Revenue. From then on ,the Board of Revenue looked after revenue collection.
